For the past two years, The Grid’s annual Dating Diaries Issue has included a feature where our readers are matched up and sent out on blind dates around Toronto. In February 2012, we sent four couples out for dinner, to Lucien Restaurant and Salt Wine Bar; in February 2013, we sent seven couples on blind dates, for dinner; for lunch; ice-skating; to a comedy show; for snacks and games of ping pong; to a dance lesson; and to the spa for pedicures. (Look for our third annual Dating Diaries Issue on Feb. 10, 2014.)
The feature was a hit, and inspired The Hook-Up, a weekly column that debuted online last March. Now, The Hook-Up runs both online and on the back page of The Grid‘s magazine edition, and—along with Dating Diaries, our column about our readers’ best, worst and craziest dates—is a constant presence in the Most Discussed section of thegridto.com, and one of the features that readers tell us they flip to first.
Matching up complete strangers and sending them on dates around Toronto is as unpredictable as it is fun: some of our “daters” end up arguing in the comments section; others are spotted kissing on street corners. Taking a look back at the year (well, nine months) in The Hook-Up, only one thing is for sure: you never know what might happen.
Here, some of our past daters tell us what happened after they first told us about their date—click through the gallery above to see if they hooked up again.
