Maybe he's saving money for a house, or maybe he was in school for ages training to be a firefighter and he wants to pay back his loans. He's not likely to live long term with his parents, hence the lack of adult decoration (he probably thought "why bother?"). After years of education and a big loan to come to terms with, I moved home for a year to take a dent out of it. I wasn't thrilled to do it, but sometimes the economy forces you to do things you normally wouldn't do.
