Having released nine loud albums since their formation in 2004, it’s safe to say Pontiak (made up of three Virginian brothers) is one of the most prolific stoner-rock acts around.

Their unruly aesthetic is neatly showcased in Echo Ono’s nine brief-but-(mostly)-blistering tracks, which will doubtless be well received by a live (and very elevated) audience. There’s a visible degree of craftiness in the way the band sledgehammers psychedelic freak-outs, heavy sludge, and greasy southern rock into a noisy blend.

While the album isn’t a significant leap for Pontiak—or the acid-rock scene as a whole—it does find the trio momentarily scaling back their anarchic tendencies throughout the comparatively gentler middle section, and those less-abrasive moments provide a nice sense of calm before the storm.

Echo Ono concludes with a thrillingly balls-out psychedelic jam session that leaves you wanting more. With any luck, a newer album should arrive by the time you’re through reading this.

Playlist picks: “Stay Out, What a Sight,” “Panoptica”

Pontiak play the Drake (1150 Queen St. W.) on April 27.
