Plating up the week’s restaurant news on Chococrêpe, What a Bagel!, Come and Get It, Granowska’s, Golden Turtle and Acadia.
OPENINGS
■ On the menu at the new Chococrêpe (620 Queen St. W., at Bathurst #QNW) are savoury and sweet crepes as well as some especially rich white and dark hot chocolates (try the ginger or green-tea versions). Coincidentally, owner Dewey Truong went to high school with the owners of the just-opened Banh Mi Boys, which is a few steps east.
■ We spotted a Coming Soon sign for What a Bagel! in the window of 130 Spadina Ave. (at Richmond #QNW). This will be the Toronto bagel chain’s first shop south of Bloor (it has nine GTA locations). Customers get a dozen free bagels on their birthday.
■ Looks like we have the first pop-up restaurant of 2012. Come and Get It will open in what was once Ackee Tree (170 Spadina Ave., at Queen #QNW). All we know: sandwiches, salads and poutine will be served.
CLOSINGS
■ There have been a lot of changes on the Roncesvalles strip lately. Polish bakery Granowska’s (175 Roncesvalles Ave., at Fern #RON) has closed (it served its last donut on Dec. 31), as has Tinto Coffee House (89 Roncesvalles Ave., at Pearson #RON). Tinto’s lease was terminated in mid-December.
CHANGES
■ Vietnamese restaurant Golden Turtle (125 Ossington Ave., at Argyle #OSS) is closed until Jan. 20 for a staff break and what looks like a bit of a face-lift.
■ Distillery District bakery The Sweet Escape (55 Mill St., Bldg. 47 #SLM) has also shut down for a month for a vacation and store improvements. It will reopen on Jan. 28.
■ Meanwhile, Acadia Restaurant (50 Clinton St., at College #COL) is taking a short winter break after ringing in the new year. It will reopen on Jan. 10.
