Last Saturday, The Burger’s Priest challenged contestants to finish one of their infamous 12x12 burgers. We were there to capture the gluttony and the glory.
In the spirit of the Olympic games (or something like that), here’s a video from Saturday’s burger-eating competition at The Burger’s Priest , hosted by deal site Hungry Buy :

Four guys stepped up to the challenge of trying to pound away a 12×12 burger consisting of 12, four-ounce beef patties and 12 slices of cheese. But Peter Czerwinski, a.k.a. Furious Pete (the sole professional competitive eater in the group—yes, it’s a thing ), blew everyone away by demolishing the burger in two minutes and 36 seconds. While the other three challengers put in a valiant effort as the curious and the cringing crowd looked on, only Pete finished the burger, winning a trip to Mexico in the process. (He capped the victory by drinking the grease at the bottom of the tray.) But it’s not like the other three guys are new to large portions: contestant Andrew Da Silva—who sports a Burger’s Priest tattoo on his neck—has eaten a 10×10 before. “I don’t eat burgers anywhere else,” he says. Also: Even though the other guys nibbled on with faces of agony, no one threw up, thanks to each having the iron-stomached metabolism of a 20-something guy.
“We definitely have the intent to make this an annual event,” says Hungry Buy COO Celine Kirkoc. “We might also do a big sushi roll or a shopping spree so it won’t be food every time.”
In other Burger’s Priest news, owner Shant Mardirosian says that the third location of his popular burger palace will open at King and Spadina some time in December. He’s still dealing with the landlord—hence the reluctance to give out the exact address—so everyone cool their jets on speculating where it’ll be. “I’ll probably know within a month when everything’s going to be good,” he says.
