Video: Behind the Scenes with Pickles the Turkey

How do turkeys behave on camera? We found out at the shoot for this week’s holiday beers story.

There’s a famous Hollywood adage that goes, ”Never work with children or animals.” While it’s true that livestock can be difficult to handle, photographer Daniel Ehrenworth opted to break that rule, recruiting a live turkey for this week’s holiday beers photoshoot.

Pickles is a seven-month-old, mixed-breed turkey from a small farm near Acton, Ontario. Farmer Julia Roberts (that’s right) says Pickles spends most of his time free-ranging across the farm’s 12 acres. Those days will soon come to an end, however—Pickles will give his life this Christmas for a needy Acton-area family.
