It’s a good time for Remy Martin lovers. The famed cognac is on sale at the LCBO, and it’s also the subject of a barrel-tasting this month at 155 Liberty Street.
How times have changed.
We can remember the days when there was no such thing as a sale at the LCBO, since that might encourage people to buy things. Kinda interesting, if you about it, since, in some ways, the old Vinmonopolet was the original anti-marketer—a store that insisted it really didn’t want you to buy anything. Evil geniuses.
Anyhow, those days are well and truly over. The LCBO does now seem to want our business, as indicated by its promotions, which currently includes a whole $10 off Remy Martin VSOP. It’s a limited time offer, of course, and will only be on special through the weekend. So, if you’re advance planning for the holidays or just like good cognac, go get it.

For those wishing to learn more about the product, or those who simply have an eye out for every opportunity to drink for a good cause, Remy Martin is offering an “experience” down at 155 Liberty Street, where it has set up shop for a month to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Canada Network. It’s open to the public and “free” with a $35 donation to the PCCN, an outfit dedicated to research and raising awareness.

If you’ve never done a barrel-tasting or played around with blending, it sounds like a pretty good deal. The evening includes a cocktail and the chance to sample a range of products, including the very lovely XO and Coeur de Cognac, a soon-to-be-released seasonal product with a very different flavour profile. The “experience” runs four nights a week, Wednesday through Saturday, until November 4.
Oh, and never mind the faux-brick wallpaper in the simulated barrel room—the stuff in the barrel is the real deal.
