True story: Last summer, the author of this column had a week-long stand-off with a certain boutique hotel/bar/culture hub over on Queen West (at Beaconsfield) over, what were, at the time, the last four bottles of Buffalo Trace bourbon in the city.
It was epic (as the kids say). Well, perhaps not actually epic. But this relatively trivial David-and-Goliath story did get slightly heated—until four more bottles were discovered accumulating dust in Sarnia and imported into The 416. We all won. Well, except perhaps for the person who, to be honest, might have wound up hoarding a little more Buffalo Trace than they necessarily wanted in the first place.
But this is a very good problem to have. And it can be your problem too, since we’ve recently spotted about 40 new bottles at the Yonge and Summerhill LCBO, with more apparently lurking in Mississauga, North York, Kitchener and London. Often such pockets can indicate that the rest of the herd is en route and that even more bottles will populate Toronto area stores as they are delivered from the warehouse. But, just in case this is all we get, you might want to get on it before the Drake gets wind of it.
Why Buffalo Trace? And why the rush? Well, it’s a smooth, solid whiskey which, for the price point ($39.95), can’t be beat. It mixes well in a bourbon sour or a julep and stands alone, too. Which is why it flies off the shelves—get it while you can.
