If you’re low on bourbon, stock up fast. Quantities of these three high-quality bourbons are dwindling at the LCBO.
Maker’s Mark held a pretty fabulous bourbon-pairing dinner this past week in the spectacular wine cellar at Barberian’s Steak House. For those who haven’t been, it’s a subterranean two-storey cellar with six million dollars worth of wine stacked floor to ceiling and a nice long table down the middle. Yes, a decent enough place to enjoy five courses of bourbon cocktails paired with oysters, escargot, brisket with duck fat onions, and a brick-sized, bone-in tenderloin.
Right before the steak was served, though, we cleansed our palate with a little bourbon tasting, including Baker’s, Booker’s and Maker’s Mark 46—all three of which are suitable for Hoarding Alerts. Baker’s and Booker’s are here in limited quantities, and the availability of both is winding down at the LCBO. The latter, incidentally, is a favourite among whiskey lovers, since it’s seriously over proof (63.4 per cent) and yet tremendously balanced and smooth—especially when a bit of distilled water is added. There are about 40 bottles of the Booker’s in Toronto stores now and even fewer of Baker’s. Suitable for immediate hoarding.
But here’s the real scoop: The current LCBO stock of Maker’s 46—a real score at $49.95—is dwindling. So although it’s general list, we’re likely to experience a brief shortage. And rumour has it, when the next batch comes in, it will be quite a bit more expensive.
So while you’re there to get your fair share of the Booker’s and the Baker’s, grab yourself a bottle of the Maker’s 46. Or two. As they say: Get it while the going is good.
