King West’s burger and karaoke hotbed has officially closed its doors.
A For Lease sign has been placed on the window of Grindhouse Burger Bar at 365 King St. W. (at Spadina), indicating that the main floor (where the restaurant is) as well as the fourth, fifth, sixth floors, and rooftop patios of the building are available for rent. An ad for the main floor restaurant was placed earlier this week.
A note dated July 11 from the landlord states the usual, “the Landlord re-entered the Premises and terminated the Lease in accordance with the Lease and section 18(1) of the Commercial Tenancies Act for non-payment of rent.”
The letter goes on to say that all property must be removed from the space before July 20. Over on the restaurant’s Twitter page, a tweet on July 12 says: “To all our faithful guests, for the moment, @GHBurgerBar will be closed. Negotiations with the building have not gone as expected! Cheers!”
They seem to be in high hopes, saying that they will be back and are continuing their catering business. Failing that, they say they’ll go the Magic Mike route.
Grindhouse opened in the fall of 2009 and became a popular place for their weekly karaoke nights.
