Critically acclaimed chefs Grant van Gameren (formerly of The Black Hoof) and Guy Rawlings (formerly of Brockton General) have been cooking at Lucien (36 Wellington St. E. at Church St.) since last Friday to help the fine-dining restaurant move into a “more approachable direction”
“There will be a new menu and eventually a new chef,” says Gameren, who worked at Lucien just before the Black Hoof opened. ”The process of changing a restaurant is extremely difficult. I’ve known [owner] Simon [Bower] for a while and both me and Guy have a lot of free time on our hands, so we’re just going in there to help with the transition because it can be overwhelming for a new chef. Once we get everyone on the same page and get some fresh blood in there, there will be someone in there for everyone to review.”
Bower adds, “The restaurant is going to be more approachable, the portions will be a touch bigger, the menu prices are going to be a bit softer and Grant and Guy are here to steer that in the right direction. They’re not going to be here for a long time, and they’re going to groom somebody to be the new chef.”
Lucien enthusiasts can calm down, though, as the old menu will continue to be served and adjusted before new dishes are introduced in the upcoming weeks.
