Golden Turtle closes… for a month

Popular pho palace Golden Turtle (125 Ossington Ave.) is on a bit of a hiatus as its windows are currently papered up and a sign on the door says that the staff is on vacation from Dec. 24 and will return on Jan. 20.

The piles of garbage on what used to be the patio suggest the restaurant is going through a bit of cleaning and renovations, but calls to the restaurant went unanswered. Meanwhile, “the other Vietnamese place a few doors down,” a.k.a. Pho Tien Thanh (57 Ossington Ave.), remains open.

noticed the paper in the windows and the refuse on the patio from the bus yesterday and was worried; glad it’s only for a month! (it better only be for a month.)

I went with three other friends to Pho Tien Thanh the other day. Complete crap compared to Golden Turtle. None of us ate more than 25% of our orders. Terrible, just terrible…

I LOVE PHO TIEN THANH!!! It is the best. We call it Fee Fi Pho! Pho Sho! I practically live there.

Golden Turtle is for white folks that don’t know the difference. Tien Thanh is clearly superior.

I love Golden Turtle, it’s the best Vietnamese food in the city! The family that runs the place are so great. I’m looking forward to the new look when it re-opens!

Its true. If you go to a restaurant in Chinatown you know its good if its predominately filled with Chinese customers. Not to say Golden Turtle doesnt provide good food its just Vietnamese know their good local restaurant food as Chinese/Italian/Mexican know their own.

Pho Tien Thanh is pretty solid plus you dont have to deal much with capacity as Golden Turtle is small and always crowded (thus the renovation…I assume to increase capacity)
