Each day leading up to The Grid’s inaugural Burger Week, we’ll whet your appetite by profiling one of the participating hamburger helpers and giving you the lowdown on their Burger Week special.
Name: The Drake Hotel
Address: 1150 Queen St. W.
Slinging burgers since: 2004
Burger boss: Darren Glew
Specialty: The boutique hotel’s restaurant is always changing its menu and hosts a multitude of events each week. But one thing that’s remained constant is the Drake Burger with cheddar, Perth bacon, Russian dressing, and a pickle with fries.
Their Burger Week special: Who says Burger Week can’t be a romantic affair? The hotel is making The One-Pounder: naturally raised chuck and short rib with Grand Chevalier cheese, arugula, red onion, and tomatoes, and onion rings. It’s $28, but it’ll serve two people.
Fun fact: The Drake’s history dates back to 1890 but it wasn’t given its current name until 1949 when new ownership took over. The current incarnation of the Drake opened in 2004 and is still expanding eastward on the West Queen West strip.
Burger Week happens May 30-June 2 at participating restaurants, culminating in the Burger Day event June 3 at Wychwood Barns (601 Christie St.). Read all of our Burger Week spotlights at www.thegridto.com/tag/burger-week.
