Your weekly guide to the city’s retail scene.
SALES
■ Don’t miss One Night Stand, a vintage-fashion market on Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. Presented by 69 Vintage at the Oz Presentation Centre (109 Ossington Ave.), the party promises great pieces from more than 20 vendors, along with drinks, food from Parts & Labour, and dancing. Both boutiques (Life of Manek, Bridge+Bardot, Penny Arcade, Philistine) and independent sellers (Shades of Coco, Lacy Surprise, Lil Pony, Stacked) will be represented. Visit 69vintagetoronto.tumblr.com for more info. Cash only.
■ Until Oct. 31, give and receive at Gotstyle’s suit trade-in (62 Bathurst St., 416-260-9696). Purge your closet and receive $50 off the purchase of a new suit—donated suits go to Dress Your Best, a charity that provides job-interview clothing to those in need.
■ If a new pair of frames or sunglasses is in your future, you might want to visit Josephson Opticians this weekend. Starting Oct. 13, all six GTA locations are holding their annual clearance sale. Discounts are steep, with up to 75 per cent off some designer frames. The sale continues until Nov. 24 but the inventory is different from store to store.
OPENINGS
■ Tiffany & Co. opens its third location in Toronto on Oct. 12 at Sherway Gardens Mall (25 The West Mall, 416-695-2112). The store will carry the full collection, excluding leather goods.
■ Shop for knitwear, leather goods, jewellery, vintage vinyl, handmade cards, and terrariums at The Drake Fall Market. The popular showcase returns to the hotel’s Café Patio (1150 Queen St. W., 416-531-5042) on Oct. 13 from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Don’t forget to stop by the Freecycle table for an up-for-grabs selection of gently used items from the Drake.
NEWS
■ Expanding their business beyond Canadian winter footwear, Sorel is introducing a new collection of fashionable boots. For both urban and country use, the new pieces are still practical. There’s a waterproof short bootie ($220) that’s smart enough for cocktail hour, and the Cozy Joan and Cate ($130), a play on the removable felt liners Sorel is known for. The new line will be available at retailers across Toronto, including Brown’s, Town Shoes, Holt Renfrew, and The Bay.
