This week in local fashion retail: summer sales at Gotstyle and Buckler, new wedding gowns by Lea-Ann Belter, and 889 Yoga and Wellness Spa to open at The Thompson Hotel.
SALES
■ Gotstyle The Menswear Store (62 Bathurst St., 416-260-9696 #KGW) begins its spring/summer sale, with markdowns of 25 to 60 per cent off all summer suits, casual sportswear, shoes and accessories. This dedicated menswear destination, housed in a 2,500-square-foot space, offers made-to-measure tailoring services and has its own in-store barbershop. The sale continues until Labour Day.
■ Blokes will also appreciate savings of up to 65 per cent on Buckler’s spring/summer 2011 collection—not a bad deal for this seemingly endless summer. The dosh saved might just tempt you to pick up a couple of pre-fall items that have just arrived, like the designer’s signature double belts or a pair of snappy leather dress-shirt “sleeve holders”—that’s armbands to you and me. Visit Buckler at 700 Queen St. W., 416-551-8441 #QNW.
■ Eco-conscious fashion neophytes and aficionados alike take note: Thieves Boutique (1156 Queen St. W., 647-435-4880 #QNW) is offering 25 to 60 per cent off all in-stock items in its end-of-season sale. The store has also begun carrying Wes Misener, a line of eco-friendly underwear for men. Locally designed and manufactured, the briefs and boxers are made from bamboo.
JUST LANDED
■ Bridal designer Lea-Ann Belter has introduced 10 new gowns for her spring 2012 collection at her flagship boutique (785 Queen St. E., 416-778-6868 #RIV). Known for her sophisticated and understated approach to design (Belter designed Rachel McAdams’ strapless bridal confection in The Time Traveler’s Wife), the veteran designer’s latest collection of dresses is a study in effortless elegance. All the gowns are handmade in her atelier and feature intricate details such as French Alençon lace overlays, delicate flowers, feathers, bubble hems and even obi sashes. Appointments are recommended.
DROP IN
■ If you’ve never attended a yoga class or had a spa treatment at 889 Yoga and Wellness Spa (889 Yonge St., 416-925-7206 #ROS), you’ve likely missed out on the feel-good retail therapy available at the facility’s Lifestyle Boutique. Stocked with clothing, accessories, skincare and gift items, the shop is open to non-members—although spa members receive a 15 per cent discount. The vibe is bohemian luxury with a holistic twist. Style-wise, look for the California-based line of cotton clothing by Hard Tail (889 carries it exclusively); and hand woven, dyed and embroidered artisan crafted Sammy Scarves from Ethiopia. The shop’s beauty and bodycare products are organic and paraben-free, and include a trio of chemical-free sunscreens. 889 will open a second location at The Thompson Hotel (550 Wellington St. W. #KGW) this September.
