The Best Thing I Saw at Toronto Fashion Week: Day 5

American budget retail chain Express was, technically, the final “collection” of Fashion Week (complete with slumming supermodel Jessica Stam), but VAWK‘s presentation of elegant eveningwear seemed a more fitting coda to the spring 2013 shows. Toronto designer Sunny Fong brought high drama to the runway, most notably in a gasp-inducing, instantly Instagrammed golden cone bra paired with peplumed plum trousers (see below), and the billows of sheer black silk streaming from sand-colored minidresses overlaid with delicate dark lace. Simpler silhouettes included a sleeved black column with peekaboo lace panels and bustier dresses in leather or beige silk, or, on the suiting side, a trim cranberry blazer and trousers worn over a cheeky print tee. Such showmanship—and the perfect ending to another Fashion Week.
