Pink Tartan is one of the warhorses of Fashion Week. Kim Newport-Mimran’s line never has much buzz about it, but it gallops on every year with its safe, elegant daywear and separates that nevertheless always draw the bold-faced names to the arena. This season, however, the collection seemed like the clear favourite of the Fashion Week crowd on Thursday. The bright kelly-green silk ruffled sleeveless blouse and matching trouser, along with a pair of skinny red pants, drew applause, while the sharp, fur-trimmed camel and cream coats (and a burgundy car coat with fur sleeves) were some of the best Pink Tartan has ever done. The call of the wild clearly continues to sound among our country’s designers—feathered skirts and huge fluffy fur coats were everywhere. Looks like this warhorse is today’s prize pony.
Honorable mentions: Triarchy’s half-naked denim models and tropical-colored jeans; Caitlin Power’s accomplished collection of silk shirts and sensible trousers; and Ezra Constantine’s S&M-inspired styling, including leather masks and floggers.
