Travis Taddeo showed for a season or two years ago, and then retreated back to his native Montreal, where he maintains a thriving online business. The handsome devil finally returned to the Big Smoke last night with his fall/winter collection of simple staples that made me remember why I loved his stuff so much back when I was just a callow young fashion reporter. Casual chic may not be flashy or eye-popping, but it is exciting to see stylish (and budget-friendly) clothes that can be so easily integrated into the day-to-day—think sheer tanks, leather-trimmed pants, maxi-dresses with a deep v-neck, shiny trenches, and long-sleeved minidresses. They have just enough personality to set them apart from your standard-issue American Apparel snoozers while acting as a blank slate for your own unique styling. This why it was the best thing I saw: its endless possibility.
Honourable mentions: Arthur Mendonça’s cream-colored ’50s-inspired frock.
