I wanted to know if spring’s more intriguing beauty trends would work as well in real life as they do on the runway. So I headed to Toronto fashion week sporting three different looks and asked the attendees what they thought.
1. THE OMBRÉ LIP (pictured above)
As seen in: Prabal Gurung (pictured below), Miu Miu, Christian Dior.

This next big thing combines two recent big things: bright, bold lips and two-tone hair. An ombré pucker might sound hard to master, but let your last red wine–fuelled night of debauchery be your guide. These lips look uncannily like you’ve been sucking back a bottle of Shiraz

“I didn’t really notice it, to be honest.” —Andrew, 32, fashion editor
“It’s really groovy.” —Lukas, 8, student
“It looks like you’ve been sucking on a Popsicle.” —Antonette, 25, fashion week volunteer
2. EXTREME CAT EYES

As seen in: Marios Schwab (pictured below), Badgley Mischka, Giorgio Armani, Greta Constantine.

People seemed to take Mad Men’s 17-month hiatus really, really hard, and that withdrawal played out on the runway with countless ’60s-chic fashion shows. Look the part by sporting Don Draper–approved, super-sized cat eyes. Bonus martinis if you opt for a bright colour, rather than basic black.
AM I PULLING IT OFF?
80% YES; 20% NO
“It’s sexy. I have a full [Pinterest] page of cat eyes!” —Sebastien, 30, photographer
“I like it—it’s easy for people to add to their repertoire. It adds a lot of drama with only a little effort.” —Anita, 37, blogger
“The line shouldn’t go so far out. It looks like a bird is about to land on there.” —Sarah, 25, boutique owner
3. WET HAIR

As seen in: Alexander Wang (pictured below), Alberta Ferretti, Helmut Lang, Jeremy Laing.

Nothing goes better with spring’s edgy couture than hair that says, “Yeah, I just washed this.” And getting those runway-dominating, wet-look locks is as easy as digging up that bottle of Dippity-Do languishing under the sink. Just run fistfuls of the gel through your hair and go. The real challenge: Having the moxie to pull it off.

“That looks like you just got out of the shower…in a bad way.” —Roger, 36, actor
