Fresh off being nominated for two Grammys for their pop-smart debut disc, Torches, Foster the People have announced a return to town that will also mark the christening of a new concert site within Downsview Park. On Sunday Tuesday, June 19, 2012, Fosters will play The Meadows, a venue situated by the water that will provide a scenic, intimate setting. Early-bird general-admission tickets are $39.50 and are available through the Inside Edge Pre-sale starting tomorrow (Dec. 6) and running till Thursday (Dec. 8 ) at 10 p.m. The public on-sale begins Friday (Dec. 9) at 10 a.m. There will also be a VIP ticket available that includes guaranteed access to the pit, private bar and food service, private bathrooms, as well as fast-pass/no-line-up entry to the show.
WHALE MUSIC
With the release of their third LP, Little Mountain coming March 6, Vancouver’s Said The Whale are already promoting the record big-time. The 2011 Juno Award winners for New Group of the Year hit town this for three shows this Thursday to Saturday (Dec. 8-10) with Tokyo Police Club and Born Ruffians at the Phoenix. They’ll turn up in town straight from supporting the Weakerthans on a couple of their play-the-whole-album shows in San Francisco and New York. This Thursday, the Whales will do a double dip: After performing at The Phoenix, they will pack up and hit The Edge studios at Sugar Beach for a performance of their new single “Heavy Ceiling” on The Thursday 30 at 9:15 p.m.
SLOAN SING FOR CHARITY
Sloan have recorded their take on the holiday classic “12 Days of Christmas,” a perfect fit for Sloan’s four-vocalist formation. You can download it from their website for a donation to The Daily Bread Food Bank. The song will also be available as part of the seven-inch split single the band will release with Fucked Up that will be available at the charity shows both bands are hosting. Fucked Up’s Dec. 20 gig will see them play their latest LP, David Comes To Life from start to finish and will be joined by P.S. I Love You. Sloan will headline on Dec 21 along with Fucked Up, Ohbijou and Bonjay. Proceeds and awareness from these shows will go to COUNTERfit’s Harm Reduction Program and Barriere Lake Legal Defense Fund.
