Time-travelling movie buds Bill and Ted would love Fang Island. The Brooklyn-based trio probably won’t change the course of history in the same way the fictional duo miraculously did with their fledgling metal band, Wyld Stallyns, but both acts contain enough proggy goodness to at least make Van Halen’s day.
Fang Island’s sophomore record is called Major, a simple yet accurate title for an album that, like their self-titled 2010 debut, supplies major guitar licks and nonstop celebratory hooks. While Major hits some of the same (albeit slightly more refined) notes as its predecessor, it’s nevertheless an exhilarating display of magnificently excessive jamming that’s sure to keep these guys on the right path towards achieving wider recognition.
What Fang Island lack in inspiration they make up for with immaculate execution and a totally non-bogus vibe.
