A legend in its own time

If the walls (and stage, and bars) of Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern could talk, these are some of the great stories they might tell.

Long live the legendary Horseshoe Tavern, where a legacy of rock, country, folk, soul, and punk has somehow survived Toronto’s desire to swap character for condos. The venue, which was a blacksmith shop in the 19th century, became a bar in 1947; this month, a slew of Canadian music heroes help celebrate its 65th anniversary. If its walls (and stage, and bars) could talk, these are some of the stories they might tell.

I was at that Whiskeytown show. Don’t remember the guitar throwing. Not to say it didn’t happen, I was a the back of the room and cold have missed it. I do remember that Fastball was opening.

At the time, they had a hit with “The Way” , the push was on and the place was crawling with industry weasels. Fastball got an awesome mix and Whiskeytown suffered with horrible sound issues for their set. Only time I’ve seen an opening act getting better sound then the headliner.

actually, that particular show when he threw the guitar, Crybaby opened. I know cause I played bass for them then. I think Fastball played their own show there around that time.
