Toronto’s annual Nuit Blanche festivities are all about setting art into motion, so that’s once again how we captured our white night on the town, with this gallery of animated GIFs.
Installation: Fly By Night: Into The Wild
Artist: Various artists

The Reaction: From a selection of works featuring Wired magazine covers tracing the digital age to a 12-hour zine station, this Gladstone Hotel group show didn’t even need Nuit Blanche to get people to gravitate towards it from sundown until sunrise. In Room 208, Believe In Yourself by Fitness Phone (David Tallis and Neil LaPierre) was a 2012 pursuit to transform your life/body/self as quickly as possible with as little effort as possible. Inspired by self-help greats like Tony Little, this “simplest exercise ever” needs your “minimal involvement.” In a sad way, it also mirrors how much time/energy people put into thinking about/observing art. Adorning the centre of the Gladstone’s second-floor gallery, multimedia artist Steven White’s “The Sun Turns Itself Inside Out” is a kinetic light sculpture constructed from “dozens of old industrial lighting fixtures found at garage sales and junk shops that have been arranged in a sphere formation, facing toward the centre.” It’s a disco ball for the end of the world.
Art or…: A regular night at The Gladstone?
Overheard: “I am mangled.” —a passing friend, mesmerized by art. Or MDMA.
