Toronto’s top neighbourhoods… for cheaters

Nothing brightens up your morning—or makes you fear for the future of humanity—quite like an email from Ashley Madison, the notorious dating site for people who shouldn’t really be dating (because, they’re, like, married and all). In the wake of their noble but failed attempt to sponsor Toronto’s zoos, the site today released its list of Toronto’s top neighbourhoods for cheaters, as determined by the regional breakdown of their 400,000-plus members in the GTA.

Ashley Madison’s top 10 cheating neighbourhoods in the GTA per capita:

1. The Beach
2. Forest Hill
3. High Park
4. Rosedale
5. Etobicoke
6. Downtown
7. North York
8. Midtown
9. Leaside
10. Scarborough

Perhaps not coincidentally, the top neighbourhoods are among Toronto’s most affluent. For their sake, we can only hope these well-heeled are using protection.

Given that this is only from Ashley Madison’s database of users, wouldn’t these stats be better labeled “Toronto’s top neighborhoods with people willing to pay to cheat”?

With that label, it would be no surprise that more affluent neighborhoods would be at the top.

How are they counting Scarborough, North York, and Etobicoke as neighbourhoods in the same vein as a neighbourhood like The Beach? Those 3 make up more than half the population of the city. Might as well just put “Toronto” at number 1 and be done with it.

@alex THANK YOU. I abhor that so many people and media outlets continue to lump the majority of individual Toronto neighbourhoods into their pre-amalgamation municipalities. If you’re going to use Forest Hill, High Park, and Rosedale, then use Newtonbrook, Tam O’Shanter, and West Hill. Betcha never heard of those. You cannot compare the massive size of, say, all the neighbourhoods that make up the former North York, to that of The Beach.
