Snapshot: throwing your vote away

With their erratic foot pedals, Astral’s garbage bins seldom open their slots to a satisfactory degree, rendering them insufficient for their intended purpose. But, as a stencil on this bin at the southwest corner of Bathurst and Queen points out, they are rather ideal for election ballots.

At most other times, this would be taken as an expression of nihilistic rage against our democratic and/or electoral systems. Given recent events, however, it most likely conveys a very specific frustration regarding a particular group of people who have demonstrated contempt for our voting process. As Ben Cormier—who discovered and photographed the piece—observed on Facebook, the best caption for this image might be: “Your polling station has moved.”
