The Toronto Star has dubbed it “Testicles Akimbo,” and it’s known locally as The Egg Beater. The reality: Deacon’s manipulated mass of steel was intended to play around with the idea of volume—in that the skeletal balls are meant to look full in an empty courtyard.

great series…here’s another…a real oddity……..”Catch Basin” in St James Park just N of Front on the W side of Jarvis……i call it ..”How To Tame Your Dragon” as it looks like something you could use to tie up a roudy dragon in your back yard

Despite the need to click and scroll, I liked the series………. more please!! The one in the music garden – is it a Maypole??

I always imagined the one at Yonge and QQ was a globe squashed in the middle; something related to the (Residences of the) World Trade Centre, rather than a scrotum or eyeballs. It needs to be enhanched by more green space, rather than destroyed or moved.

In the NW corner of Little Norway Park, just west of the Music Garden, is the “cosmic maypole” which I believe is called Dream of the Whales (or Dream of Blue Whales, or something similar). Is that what you meant?

When I worked as a camp councilor at Harbourfront, we always used to bring kids by Sundial Folly in canoes and tell them it was called The Lemming Ball. We would tell them a long ridiculous story about how the ball was originally a giant oven the city built to control the huge lemming infestation. Instead of polluting the lake when they committed suicide en masse, the lemmings were drawn into the Lemming Ball, burned alive and the ashes flowed over the waterfall and out into the lake… When I write it out, maybe it wasn’t the best thing to tell to kids.
