A new number one has been declared in the second annual Canada’s Best Restroom contest today, and taking the throne is Toronto’s own E11even restaurant.
The contest, created by a US-based restroom supply company, had patrons nominate their favourite restaurant, convention centre or hotel restroom (as long as it’s accessible to the public) and vote for their favourite place to shake the dew off the lily. The results trickled down to the finalists and, this morning, E11even was declared to put the “p” in supreme. The marble and tiled washrooms (the darker one is for men and the off-white one is for women) were designed by New-York based firm Rockwell Group, who also designed the adjacent Real Sports Bar, the sets for the Oscars and Alain Ducasse’s restaurants.
So who got the No. 2 spot? Well, honourable mentions went to the Allstream Centre at Exhibition Place, a Mercedes dealership in Edmonton, a hotel in Montreal and the Ottawa Convention Centre. They’re not dumps, but rather good places to take one.
Last year, a Vancouver restaurant squeezed past Toronto spots Spice Route, Mildred’s Temple Kitchen and the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to clinch the title.
