On Monday, after a landmark decision by Ontario’s Court of Appeals rewrote many of the province’s prostitution laws—including legalizing brothels—councillor Giorgio Mammoliti saw an opportunity to resurrect his call for a red-light district in Toronto. Repeating a proposal he made last year, he suggested brothels could set up shop on the Toronto Island, or elsewhere. The Toronto Twittersphere had its own ideas.
@antinephalist Mammo’s giant flagpole is starting to look like a good ad for his red-light district. Two Ferris wheels next to it, and we’re good.
@purpledocket If Mammoliti is looking for any marketing help, I offer “Toronto Island: Beaches, Boeings, and Broads.”
@peytoonie Toronto is considering creating a red-light district. No need to look for a summer job anymore, I suppose. I’m all set now!
@theyorkies1812 Councillor Mammoliti to change mind about Finch LRT, if new vehicles include on-board casino and red-light district in rear.
@MrIanMacIntyre Enormous subway vs. LRT vote: Mammoliti can’t bother to show up. Prostitution legalized: Mammoliti’s all over it!
@jessehawken “People want brothels. It’s about brothels, brothels, brothels.”—Mammo (paraphrased).
@steve_kee We already have a red-light district. It’s in the back of the Leafs’ net.
@freaque Let’s hope it goes to Mammoliti’s ward.
