Sure, late-night pool-hopping is illegal. But that’s not stopping these city dwellers looking for a cool dip in the wee small hours.
It’s probably the city’s worst-kept secret that a late-night dip in one of Toronto’s 58 municipally run outdoor pools is only ever a chain-link fence away.
Illegal? Well, yeah, it’s called trespassing. (The city doesn’t like it, and has boosted security measures in recent years.) But after hours, the Alexandra Park pool at Dundas and Bathurst is a happening place.
In a span of two hours on a sweltering night last weekend, we met a couple in search of a romantic respite from the heat, friends willing spend the rest of their night in sopping skivvies and one lone swimmer who found a way to beat the crowds. For all of them, the refreshing reward was worth a risk.
