Snapshot: Dundas West and Sterling gets bike lanes, for now

Dundas West and Sterling—the intersection where cyclist Jenna Morrison was killed in November—has two short bike lanes now, on opposite sides of Sterling, leading on and off of Dundas. But they’re not going to last: they were painted on Saturday morning, without the city’s permission or knowledge, by members of the Urban Repair Squad, a loose collective who often do this sort of thing. “It’s supposed to be a little protest,” one member of the group who identified himself as Mr. Teal told The Grid. Because they used water-based paint, the blue and white lanes will dissolve soon enough, though that still didn’t seem to impress the police officers who arrived just after the group was finished and had fled.

Unfortunately when I passed by on Monday the blue lanes were already gone, perhaps washed away by the street cleaner yesterday.

Sad.

Wow it’s that simple to paint bike lanes. So by the city not doing this and those Councillors responsible on council who voted against more bike lanes in the city should then be criminally held responsible and conspiracy to commit manslaughter, no? My understanding is that they are free of such charges if their intent is all well and good, but the evidence, not too mention some of their own commentary by those who voted against the bike lanes are fully involved in a conspiracy to commit manslaughter against the cyclists of Toronto. Am I right? Lawyer please.

Whether by design or by accident (pun intended), manslaughter is not too strong a word to use that characterize the intent and mindset of those on city council who hate bikes. They, (the bicyclists) are just asking for it. Just ask our mayor.
