Side streets are done after all the major ones are done first. Try reading the City of Toronto website on snow management. And the reason we do not plow to the curb is because it fills in the sidewalks. Then the sidewalk plow or a person has to clear it again and it ends up in the street. And more times than not we have to plow the Major street 2-3 times to keep them clear. And there are times that we need to sleep too. I plowed for over 24hrs straight during the last storm. And no I do not get payed overtime. And if people would just buy snow tires we could get the job done faster. And do not park on Major streets because you will just get plowed in! I just returned from Buffalo and their streets are clear of snow and ice. But Toronto has yet to clear side streets, parking is reduced due to snowbanks, roads were not plowed to the curb (as usual) BUT the new Sherbourne bike lane WAS SALTED AND PLOWED before the roads so YES there is a war on cars for sure!
