TIFF has an unusual effect on people. As The Grid’s Kate Carraway pointed out in her recent Rituals column, it turns pretty much every journalist (be it someone covering parties, press conferences or distribution news) into shameless namedroppers. It can also make a fan who has been waiting at the barricades for four hours go a little crazy (understandably) when their favourite actor walks by them without even acknowledging their existence.
That’s what happened at the red carpet for Peace, Love and Misunderstanding when one of its stars, Chace Crawford, briefly greeted the crowd before disappearing into the red carpet to do interviews. (He and co-star Kyle McLachlan were running late for the screening.)

A few female fans started to boo. One yelled out, “I hope you get fired from Gossip Girl!” and proceeded to make her wishes known on Twitter. Another shouted, “It’s not fair” and declared that she will boycott the show. (That shouldn’t be so hard, considering the show pretty much petered out by the end of its first season.)
A few hours later, there would be another opportunity for close encounters with the stars at the gala for Butter, where the likes of Jennifer Garner, Alicia Silverstone, Olivia Wilde and Ashley Greene did the walk. The younger starlettes worked their way through the crowd (and calmed the aforementioned shouty girls) while Cher, uh, Silverstone briefly posed for photos and signed a few autographs before disappearing into the photo pit. What’s also worth mentioning is that we counted four different pronunciations of her name from the crowd and photographers: A-lee-cee-ia, A-lee-sha, Elisa and one Alexa. Way harsh, Tai.
