Since 1985, 699 homeless people have died in Toronto. And “that’s an at-least number,” says Doug Johnson Hatlem, a street pastor with Sanctuary Ministries and record-keeper for the Toronto Homeless Memorial Network, the only organization that rigorously documents the city’s homeless deaths. Still, he admits, “there’s a lot that we don’t get on the list.” These are all of the deaths they’ve been able to verify.

Come on people…a cynic would ask ; “What was the death certificate “cause of death?” How many of these individuals were part of our health care system and their deaths were because of their medical condition? IMHO classifying a death as due to homelessness the cause would be due to the elements; ie: cold/heat and a person’s refusal to go into a shelter, for whatever reason ,is a personal decision.
