RIP: Café du Lac has closed

Québécois restaurant Café du Lac (2350 Lake Shore Blvd. W., at Albert) has passed away at the age of four. Survived by owner Kathryn Ashby, the Etobicoke restaurant was alive and kicking until the last day of Summerlicious on July 22. “The first two-and-a-half years were awesome, but I’m also an art director so it got hard to do both jobs and still put out the same quality of food,” said Ashby. “It has run its course, and now I’m just happy to be able to sit down at a restaurant and not be reminded of work.” The remains of Café du Lac have been sold to a chef who plans to turn the space into a Spanish tapas restaurant over the coming months. The restaurant will be remembered for its poutine avec côtes de boeuf.—Karon Liu

this place was a kitchen nightmare…from the original chef pretending to be cory mintz at one point to his wife not paying the staff…outright a sad operation ran by amateurs that wont be missed…look into the food safe web for more tell tell stories about this place…it wont be missed.

Looking forward to the new Tapas place. This neighbourhood is in serious need of some high end restaurants.

Sad. We’ve enjoyed lots of great memories there: anniversary parties, etc. We even had our wedding reception there. Mimico has lost a fantastic eatery.

Tapas, eh? Whatever …

Looking forward to a new place!

Went once. Crap service. 1/2 assed food – poorly executed, overcooked, cold, w/ unannounced substitutions. Never went back.

Wishing the new proprietor the best of luck! I’m hoping that the area gets a great new place to eat.
