It looks like Toronto is set to get another izakaya. Zakkushi, a Japanese style-pub with three successful Vancouver locations, will be opening in a few weeks at 193 Carlton St. (just west of Parliament). The restaurant is best known for its kushiyaki (skewered meat) cooked over binchotan (a white charcoal), but Zakkushi’s manager Mikey Yasumura has confirmed the menu will also have its share of small hot and cold sharing plates.
At this two-floor location, the street-level dining room will accommodate about 70 people, with the smaller downstairs area fit for big groups and private events. There will be Asahi and Sapporo on tap, as well as an extensive list of cocktails. Barring any delays with permits, the restaurant should be open by mid-December.
