An eviction notice was posted on the door of Kensington Market’s corner restaurant The Bellevue (61A Bellevue Ave., at Nassau) this week citing non-payment of rent. Co-owner Chris Dardarian, however, sent out this statement last night, saying that they’re still around:
The eviction notice was posted by our landlord as a result of a dispute between us and our landlord. It has since been resolved and you’ll notice the sign is no longer posted. The expansion plans that were announced at the end of December are still underway.
The Bellevue has been closed since December for renovations with plans to expand to the property next door. (It used to be a skate shop.) Dardarian has further added that the extension is slated to be completed in the spring when the restaurant is scheduled to re=open.
In addition to being a restaurant in its own right, The Bellevue has served as a venue for pop-up dinners by chefs like Jonathan Poon, who used the kitchen as a practice space before opening his own restaurant.—Karon Liu
