Food Spy: Sabai Sabai Kitchen to open in the Village, with help from chef Nuit Regular

Toronto’s Gay Village is going to get some culinary cred with the upcoming Thai resto Sabai Sabai Kitchen (225 Church St. at Dundas), slated to open sometime in the fall. Chef Nuit Regular (pictured) of popular Thai restaurant Khao San Road has been tapped to help first-time restauranteurs Jason Jiang and Seng Luong with the menu. (They met Regular when they were customers at Sukho Thai, the Cabbagetown Thai restaurant she used to run with her husband Jeff Regular.)

Things are still in the preliminary phase, says Jeff, who owns Adelaide’s Khao San Road with Nuit. They’re still working on how involved Nuit will be in the kitchen. “At this point, we’re going to pretty much help with the menu and help it get going off its feet,” he says. “We’re right at the beginning of this and trying to figure everything out.”—Karon Liu

225 Church is not in the Gay village. It is in the block of buildings at the southeast corner of Church & Dundas that is dominated by Halal restaurants (every single one of them!).

For those who don’t know what Halal is, it is Sharia compliant food demanded by Muslims, in other words this area is anything but gay. Under sharia law Homosexuality is a crime punishable by execution.

Ironically the corner of Church & Wellesley – the “gay mecca” of Canada is dominated by Sharia compliant restaurants such as HERO Certified (Halal) Burger!

I notice that Chef Nuit’s original restaurant on Parliament is also Halal so I suspect that this one will also be Halal.

I ate at the Parliament Restaurant once – when Chef Nuit was the cook and I had the blandest Pad Thai in my life. Unless she learned how to cook since then I don’t know what the big fuss is over her.

Not that I would eat Halal food – but you could not pay me to eat at a restaurant at 225 Church st which is next door to the Dundas Sq Hotel – the WORST hotel in the city that is full of cockroaches and bedbugs.

Another inaccuracy in this article is the statement “Toronto’s Gay Village is going to get some culinary cred”

One of the most acclaimed restaurants in the city is the Japanese Tapas Bar “Guu” which is at the southern gateway to the Gay village – so this statement is not correct.

Overall a crumby article by Crumbs , LOL
