As if Tex-Mex food doesn’t send people to the toilet fast enough, Canadian fast-food chain Mucho Burrito has announced that it’s adding hotter-than-hot ghost peppers to its menu for a limited time.
Recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s hottest chili pepper in 2007 (it has since lost that title to a newer, perkier pepper in February), the ghost pepper—or Bhut Jolokia— rates 400 times hotter than Tabasco and is 200 times spicier than a jalapeño on the Scoville Scale.
Diners can enjoy—err, endure—the pepper by ordering the Ghost Pepper Burrito containing ghost-pepper bacon, ghost pepper–infused fig marmalade, rice, salsa, and a choice of meat wrapped in a tortilla. The Hotter Than Hell option adds extra-spicy salsa and pure ghost-pepper sauce. The special burritos are available till Nov. 2. There’s more info and giveaway specials on its Facebook page.
Here’s a guy on YouTube who filmed himself trying to eat a bag of ghost peppers. You too can be like him!—Karon Liu
