After more than three years of selling cheesy goodness on Queen West, The Leslieville Cheese Market will be closing up shop, due to high rent. Toronto turophiles need not despair: they will continue to operate out of their three other locations, and for the next two weeks everything at 541 Queen St. W. (with the exception of what is made in-house) will be 30% off.
UPDATE: OCT. 2, 5:15 p.m.: After speaking with co-owners Michael Simpson and Michelle Lippiatt, they have confirmed that it was not only high rent that led to the location’s shuttering, but also the Loblaws that opened a few doors down. According to both Simpson and Lippiatt, as soon as the chain supermarket opened up last year, there was a noticeable decline in business.
