Chef Guy Rawlings, who previously did consulting stints at the Bellwoods Brewery and Lucien in the last year, had just signed the lease to open event space in the west end.
“It’s a commercial space, not a restaurant—I’m never going to open a restaurant,” says Rawlings, who’ll officially take over the space with his business partner and fiancé, Kim Montgomery, on Nov. 1.
“It’s going to be more of an event space where we’ll collaborate with different chefs. In a way, it’s my food lab. I always wanted a studio to do the creative things I want to do but not have the restraints of a restaurant where you constantly have to be open at 5 p.m. and do things a certain way.”
It’s going to be a small venue—just 1,000 square feet—that will be open for food events as well as fundraisers and the like. Rawlings wouldn’t say the exact address of the yet-to-be-named space, but it’s just west of Dufferin between Dundas and Queen.—Karon Liu
