This year, a handful of Toronto restaurants are making your holiday shopping and hostess gift-giving easier by offering ready-made baskets filled with all things edible. Surprise the foodie on your list with one of these bountiful bushels.
Starting at $75, Lisa Marie’s “Meat Sweats” baskets include everything you need to send someone you love (or yourself) into a food coma. The starter package includes a half-rack of smoked ribs, a smoked lamb shank, a smoked bacon explosion, bacon jam, jalapeno hot sauce, XXX hot sauce, and smoked-apple BBQ sauce. And if that wasn’t enough, customers can upgrade their selection by adding goodies from the restaurant’s deli counter and pantry.

Roncy’s favourite smokehouse now offers a wide range of pre-designed beasty baskets for the meat-lover on your list. Packages range from $80 to $260 and include “The Essentials” basket (sauces, rubs, cookies, candied almonds, chocolate barque, root veggie chips, and popcorn), the “A Day in the Life of Barque,” which has everything you need to make three square meals including duck pancakes, and the “We’ll Smoke Anything” that features, well, everything (munchies, along with breakfast, lunch, and dinner ingredients, plus chocolates, cheese, and a smoker kit). Tack on another $15 to booze up your basket with wine, bourbon, or beer.

Susur himself personally selected everything that went into his Signature Holiday Basket ($60). A serving bowl plays the role of basket and is filled with Susur’s Own jerk spice, handmade local pear and citrus preserves, Canadian Ice Syrup by Susur Lee, handmade palmier cookies, two sets of chopsticks, and Bent’s signature jerk chicken recipe. An extra $40 scores you a $50 gift card, or splurge on a dinner for two, which brings the total to $250 (plus tax).
