Construction is underway for the downtown location of Washington-based and Obama-approved Five Guys Burgers and Fries, which is moving into one-half of what used to be the giant HMV space at 329 Yonge, just north of Dundas. (The music and DVD shop remains open in its current smaller space next door at 333 Yonge.) While Five Guys will occupy the ground floor, the upstairs will host the new location of Queen West’s Silver Snail comic-book store in the end of September.
Five Guys has already opened in Toronto at 865 York Mills Rd. and at 800 Warden Ave. in Scarborough; another location will be coming to Leaside’s new shopping complex, Leaside Village, at 85 Laird. A spokesperson for Five Guys says the Leaside location is slated for an end-of-October/beginning-of-November opening while the downtown spot could open as early as late September.—Karon Liu
