In 1996 Jamie Angell opened a gallery in what was then a decidedly run-down part of the city. Since the Angell Gallery was opened, the area has become the place for the hip and in the know to buy a loft, shop and dine. And look at art. An overwhelming number of other galleries have opened along the Queen West strip since Angell took a chance, causing it to become the new Gallery District.
The gallery has established a reputation for unconventional, yet noteworthy exhibitions by emerging and established artists.
